A smooth result depends on the condition beneath the paint. Existing cracks, texture and intended lighting determine preparation needs. Unresolved water damage should be assessed before cosmetic work. Confirm surfaces, colours and finish levels in the scope.
Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and structural changes are project-dependent and reviewed through qualified trades or professionals where required.
Interior painting and drywall finishing begin with the existing surfaces. Identify damaged areas, old patches, texture and the condition of trim before choosing paint colours. A cosmetic finish should not conceal an unresolved source of moisture or movement. Photographs can help start the discussion, but preparation requirements may need an on-site assessment.
Natural light, wall-mounted fixtures and reflective finishes can make joints or imperfections more visible. Discuss the expected appearance of walls and ceilings alongside the preparation scope. Paint sheen affects the look of the room and how surfaces are maintained. Test colour samples beside flooring, cabinetry and trim rather than judging the colour on a screen alone.
Define walls, ceilings, doors, trim and any excluded surfaces separately. Note whether the home is occupied and which furnishings need protection or movement. If finishing joins a larger renovation, coordinate it with the installation of other materials. The estimate should clarify repairs, preparation and specified finish choices; a single paint colour does not describe the full work involved.

Wall preparation and painting can be coordinated with flooring, cabinetry and other finishes.
The cause and extent of damage need to be checked. Agree repairs and preparation first, especially where moisture is involved.
The concept is a starting point. Room dimensions, materials, existing conditions and any required approvals need to be reviewed before a written scope, estimate or schedule can be proposed.
